As we step into 2025, we are excited to announce the launch of GINGR’s very own newsletter!
This past year has marked significant progress for the Global Initiative for Nature, Grids, and Renewables (GINGR). Following its launch at COP28 in Dubai, the partnership between RGI and IUCN has grown stronger, leading to the establishment of the GINGR Secretariat at the RGI office in the spring. In July, we inaugurated the International Advisory Board, bringing together high-level experts from around the world to guide our work.
Building Foundations for a Global Framework
GINGR has made progress in developing robust assessment tools to quantify contributions to Nature- and People-Positive goals with the creation of three key Technical Working Groups: Metrics, Offshore, and Linear Infrastructure. These groups are hard at work identifying research gaps, developing a whitepaper, and building the foundations of GINGR’s global framework.
This year also saw the publication of two milestone papers as part of the Navigator Series for Offshore Wind Development. These papers focus on Maritime Spatial Planning and Monitoring Biodiversity, providing invaluable guidance for sustainable offshore wind projects.
What’s Next for GINGR?
GINGR’s mission is to develop globally aligned, standardised monitoring and reporting systems that measure progress towards biodiversity gains and community benefits. In the coming months, we’ll be launching two additional Working Groups on Monitoring and Reporting, further solidifying our commitment to a sustainable and just energy transition.
