Our Work

We are developing a comprehensive framework for energy actors to report progress towards biodiversity gains and co-created community benefits while deploying wind, solar and electricity grids.

Our framework will support governments, companies, and the financial sector in achieving their energy, climate, and biodiversity targets in a timely and socially responsible manner. It will rely on agreed criteria and existing tools and methodologies for assessing impacts on and restoration of nature (such as the STAR and IBAT frameworks from IUCN).

Recognising the important challenges posed by implementation, we will also develop a technical assistance hub to provide guidance and support, as well as a collection of good practices and lessons learnt.

Technical Working Groups

To develop our framework and technical assistance hub, we are establishing dedicated Technical Working Groups (TWGs) addressing all aspects of Nature- and People-Positive deployment of renewables and grids.

Metrics

Building a toolbox of metrics and approaches to assess contribution to Nature- and People-Positive infrastructure, complemented by guidance documents and test pilots.

Offshore

Developing guidance for the global roll-out of offshore wind and grids, looking at the challenges, opportunities and lessons learnt to ensure contributions towards Nature- and People-Positive.

Linear Infrastructure

Developing guidance for the global roll-out of electricity grids, looking at challenges, opportunities, and lessons learnt to ensure quantifiable contributions towards Nature- and People-Positive infrastructure.

Monitoring

Defining tools and methods for national monitoring systems, with the aim of promoting standardised approaches to allow aggregation of data into a common system.

Reporting

Elaborating a global reporting system based on the outcomes of the other TWGs.

Local Experts, Global Mission

Our Technical Working Groups (TWGs) will develop approaches and solutions for an assessment framework to measure contributions to Nature- and People-Positive wind, solar and electricity grids.

By leveraging the expertise within these groups, we aim to ensure a well-rounded and effective approach to advancing a Nature- and People-Positive energy transition.

TWG membership is determined in consultation with the group’s lead organisation. To efficiently reach our goals no more than eight core members will work on the group’s objectives. Initial results will be routinely shared with an extended stakeholder network for feedback.
