This recording captures the full ministerial dialogue organised by GINGR at the 2025 IUCN Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi, where leaders from Vanuatu, Panama, Japan and Germany reflected on the realities of delivering rapid renewable expansion while protecting ecosystems and strengthening community resilience. Their experiences differ, but each highlights why countries need practical support to make the transition truly Nature- and People-Positive.
Speakers describe the pressures that come with accelerating deployment. Vanuatu’s ambition for universal renewable access depends on community-centred planning. Panama’s rapidly growing energy system needs intelligent, modern grids that minimise environmental impact. Japan faces the challenge of expanding solar while conserving cultural and natural landscapes. Germany stresses that strong spatial planning and clear biodiversity safeguards are essential if infrastructure is to support, rather than erode, ecosystem health.
These perspectives all point to a common need for better tools, clearer data and more consistent approaches to siting, planning and monitoring. This is precisely where GINGR adds value. The initiative helps countries bridge the gap between high-level ambition and on-the-ground delivery, offering practical guidance to align renewable and grid development with biodiversity protection and community benefit.
