Eamon Ryan is a High Level Advocate for the Climate and Clean Energy Coalition, an agency under the United National Environment Programme, responsible for addressing short lived greenhouse gases.
He is also Chair of the European Commission Housing Advisory Board, a director of the Laudato Si Movement and a policy fellow with Catalyse Europe, working on the development of more flexible and efficient electricity grids. He is also a regular contributor to the Irish Times Opinion pages.
He was the Minister for Environment, Climate, Communications and Transport in the Irish Government from June 2020-January 2025. In that time he was appointed EU climate finance negotiator in COP 27/28 and Ministerial pair with responsibility for Climate adaptation negotiations in COP 29. He was selected as co-chair of the International Energy Agency for its 50th anniversary meeting in 2024.
He was leader of the Green Party in Ireland from March 2011 – July 2024, was first elected to Dail in 2002 and was Minister for Communication, Energy and Natural Resources from June 2007- January 2011.
